This was the dramatic moment a van caught fire on the A420 today, caught by passing motorist Giles Hacon.
He was returning home to Bath from Castle Combe with his mother at 3pm when he came up behind the burning wreck.
He said: “We came through the village a little bit further down the road and we could smell something burning.
“We saw some black smoke higher up, then came round the corner and saw it there. It was quite exciting really.
“I was most surprised that some cars were still trying to go past it, as as we turned round the fuel tank went pop and some more flames came out, so it could have been a whole lot worse.”
A fire crew arrived on the scene at 3.15pm and extinguished the flames within five minutes.
The van driver was able to get out of the vehicle safely, without suffering any injuries.
