Kingdown School pupil and volunteer Kieran Strong is hoping to encourage more youngsters to get involved in sport, after filming a series of interviews with players from the England rugby team.

The 14-year-old got the opportunity to interview six of the players selected  in the England squad to face New Zealand this month, after winning Best Young Volunteer at the vInspired Awards 2014.

Kieran, who lives in Corsley, spoke to co-hosts RBS Early Careers after the event about his desire to get more young people involved in sport and RBS, which sponsors the Six Nations, organised the interview day.

Kieran said: “It was a great experience to meet the players I have seen on TV. I asked them about the skills and qualities they need in rugby, how they started off and their inspiration when they were younger.

“I am a big rugby fan and I have never met such high profile stars before, so I was a bit nervous, but it was really good fun and it got easier as it went on.

“I will now work with RBS to edit the video and then it will be used as part of a Powerpoint presentation that we will take around local primary schools.”

Through the Football Futures programme, Kieran runs after-school sports clubs for young people of different abilities, including those with special needs.
