Abbeyfield School’s deputy head said all students picking up their A-level results today had their year ahead organised.

The Chippenham school achieved a pass rate of 99 per cent, up from 93 per cent last year.

The number of results graded at B and above was 45 per cent, also slightly up on last year’s 42 per cent.

Ian Tucker arrives as the new headteacher in September as David Nicholson takes up a new headship at a school in Hampshire.

Deputy headteacher Mike Randall said: “All of our students are now placed; everywhere has somewhere to go.

“There is a complete range; the vast majority are going to university and a number are going into apprentices and some on specialist courses for music with scholarships. One of our students, Ben Richards, is working on the BBC’s Atlantis project.

“There is a balanced suite of A-levels and BTECs giving our students the best opportunity to achieve on the appropriate courses.

“I’m very proud at the end of my first year here. There is a really good vibe at this school. There’s still room for improvement; we are always striving to give them the best opportunities we can.”

Head girl Holly Provis was chosen to play for Chelsea ladies’ football team, but wanted to stay closer to home.

After earning A*AA in her A-levels, Holly, of Ludlow Close, will now be able to study sports science in Bath.

But Kieran Myers, of Lockswell Close, who also achieved A*AA, can’t wait to get to London to start his auditor job with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Twins Paige and Heather Evans, from Melksham, will be separated for the first time when Paige goes to Exeter and her sister to Birmingham.

Paige achieved AAAB and will study drama and English, while Heather got A*AAA and is doing straight English.

But choosing to stay together are boyfriend and girlfriend Adam Gerrard and Natasha Emms, who both have places confirmed at Loughborough University. Adam, of Wishart Way, got A*AAB and Natasha, of Melksham, BBB.
