Heavy rainfall caused chaos throughout Wiltshire overnight, with officers from a variety of different organisations to working hard together to combat issues.

Following heavy rainfall overnight people are being asked to adhere to safety advice with flood water affecting some roads throughout Wiltshire.

Motorists are being urged to drive safely and never move road closures or attempt to drive through roads which have been closed due to flooding. Where roads are open, but have some minor flooding, drivers must slow down and drive according to the conditions.

Overnight officers were in attendance close to Corsham Disused Railway Station after the 22.45pm London Paddington to Swansea and its passengers found itself stranded on the lines due to flooding following heavy rainfall.

The train was reversed and passengers were successfully disembarked at a less flooded site and taxis were arranged to take them home.

A local authority rest centre was being prepared but, following the hard work of all officers involved resolving the incident, was no longer required.

British Transport Police, Network Rail, Wiltshire Council, Swindon Borough Council, Public Health England, Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, NHS England, Network Rail and the South West Ambulance Service worked together to help resolve the incident.

The overnight work has been coordinated by the Local Resilience Forum (LRF) which prepares for, responds to and helps with the recovery from local major incidents and emergencies.
