Bradford on Avon Rotary Club recently handed over a cheque for £2,500 to Young Carers, in particular to those who have to look after a family member, often for many hours a day, but who also have their own personal problems or disabilities to contend with.

The money will go towards Project Inspire to help young people to improve their skills and build resilience.

Focusing on young carers from local schools, it will offer key work support and sessions on healthy eating, mind and body, as well as the chance to take part in challenges such as adventure sports, climbing and canoeing.

From this programme they are able to gain a BTEC Employability qualification, a Sports or Community Leadership award, as well as work-based qualifications in first aid, manual handling and food safety.

President Geoff Eynon said: “We have supported young carers for a few years now giving them several hundred pounds a year, and in the last two years we have sent eight young carers on a five-day sailing holiday.

“With this donation we feel we can really make a difference to their lives.”
