The White Swan in Southwick was also known as The Swan Inn.

In 1875 it was kept by John Miles, who was also a smith. It was not unusual for smiths to also run a beer house. The Swan was still there in 1931, in Warp Lane which later became Church Lane.

In the 1920s, when this archive picture was taken, it was kept by Jesse Beaven. The Usher brewery house was sold on January 17, 1935 as a dwelling house, as it is today, below, with a covenant that no part of the premises should be used as a club or for the sale or supply of intoxicating liquors.
