The plane carrying former England rugby captain Lewis Moody has been involved in an emergency landing in the Arctic as he takes part in a charity trekking challenge to the North Pole.

Mr Moody, 36 who has lived in Bradford on Avon for the past four years, started his journey Headnorth last week and it is understood that the plane had to make an emergency landing on Saturday as they travelled from Svalbard to Ice Camp Barneo, where the trek began.

The team of nine are made up of rugby players including Danny Grewcock MBE, members from yachting company, Y.CO, and three Royal Marines who are enduring the 100km trek.

It is understood that the team are safe and well although the plane’s undercarriage suffered some damage.

A helicopter was dispatched to the landing spot to collect the trekkers and take them the rest of the journey to their start point at 1 degree from the North Pole.

They arrived to their starting point in good spirits and are on day three of their ten-day journey.

The trip aims to raise £250,000 for two charities including the Lewis Moody Foundation as well as the Royal Marines Charitable Trust.
