Staverton Halt 1 Then and Now.
Staverton used to have its own railway station... although it was termed a halt.
The Great Western Railway was constructed and opened in 1848, the original line connecting Thingley junction, Chippenham and Westbury and then later Bradford on Avon.
But it wasn’t till 1885 that a connecting track was laid on the west side of Bradford on Avon north junction that completed a triangle and created a diversion route for the London to Bristol service which normally went through Box Tunnel.
Staverton Halt, north of the railway bridge was built in 1905 and opened in 1906 bringing the railway to the village.
