AN eight-year-old girl from Bradford on Avon who suffers from cystic fibrosis has been chosen to hand over a cheque to the charity which helps and supports fellow suffers across the UK from money raised at an open day at Widbrook Equestrian Centre.

Izzy Hulbert-Brown, a pupil at The Mead Primary School, Wingfield, and whose family own and run Widbrook, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was four.

She was presented with £750 which she will pass on to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Izzy’s mum Emma, who works at the riding school alongside manager Karen Griggs, said her daughter was thrilled to be involved.

"I'm really proud of Izzy,” said Emma, whose daughter was among those who took part in the open day with fellow members of the Pony Club, performing a drill ride.

The money was half the amount raised at the riding school’s open day, with the other half being presented to the Saxon Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association whose members ride at Widbrook.

Jo Rutherford, chairman of the group, said she was delighted with the funds which would contribute to the purchase of a horse trailer.

"A trailer is a big expense for a small group like ours so we're thrilled and very grateful. Having a trailer is a huge benefit as it means our members can travel to shows, competitions and have days out without having to hire transport," she said

"We regularly qualify for the national championships which are in July and it is really exciting to be able to travel to the event with our own trailer."

The RDA’s ponies, Caellyn, Jacko and Garfield, all live at Widbrook Equestrian Centre.
