HOLBROOK Primary pupils have had a spring in their step this week after the school launched a new good deed initiative.

The ‘Pay It Forward’ project is part of this year’s theme for pupils which is all about happiness and wellbeing.

Launched on Monday, each class have a card to pass on along with a good deed and the premise is that the pupils can increase their own happiness by helping others.

Deputy headteacher Rose Nunn was the brains behind the idea and said since it was first introduced, the children have taken real ownership of trying to carry out good deeds no matter how small or large.

She added: “The idea of passing around these cards between pupils, but also staff and parents, is to encourage the children to find happiness from helping others and it is the first event we’ve held with the community to be involved in.”

Having promoted previous themes of Japan and staying green in previous years, the school plan to hold more events to truly highlight the importance of giving back to people including inviting the Dogs Trust to talk to KS1 children about happiness through animals.

Mrs Nunn added: “I’m really amazed by how well it has gone down with everyone. We only launched it on Monday and in an assembly I said who has passed on the card and about 30 per cent put their hands up which is great.

“The children have taken real ownership of the project and you can tell they really want to do it and take part because they are making sure the cards get passed on to one another but also with teachers too.

“Everyone has been so supportive of the idea and it is enjoyable because you know you are part of a broader team and people are going out of their way to make things happen.”
