CARE home residents will be able to go on more day trips, thanks to the success of a Christmas fair in Staverton.

Dozens of villagers turned out to support the Old Vicarage Care Home's Christmas extravaganza held at Staverton Club on Saturday, December 3 and registered manager Claire Turner said she is delighted that they raised £400.

"It is the first time we have held an event at Staverton Club but it was really good," she said. "We are quite restricted with space at the Old Vicarage so we will definitely go down that route again. Quite a few people turned up from the village which was really nice. There were lots of home made cakes, face painting and we even had Santa's grotto. The whole day was great."

Staff at the care home work tirelessly to ensure that the residents are kept entertained and have an opportunity to take part in a number of activities from memory boxes to pet therapy but transport for day trips can be expensive.

The manager said: "All the money we raised will go straight into the activities fund so that they can go out on day trips and have people come in and give talks. For example, the money will help pay for their minibus to Whitehall soon."
