CHURCHES in Trowbridge came together on Good Friday to remember the crucifixion of Jesus.

Nearly 300 parishioners from churches which make up the Trowbridge Area Churches Together (CATA) partnership listened to a service delivered by reverend Rob Thomas at St James’ Church at 10am before walking through the town centre bearing a wooden cross.

From the church they walked to Sainsbury’s before heading to Lloyds bank and then through the Fore Street precinct, stopping off at Monsoon. Readings and hymns were heard at each of the stops along the way with the help of the Salvation Army band.

The procession finished up at the cenotaph in the park before the hundreds of churchgoers enjoyed coffee and hot cross buns in the Scout hut.

Organiser Chris Friend, minister at Upper Studley Baptist Church, said: “It was a brilliant event and great to see so many people there.

“St James Church was packed to the rafters and the service was brilliant, which got things off to a good start.

“Every year this is a fantastic opportunity to remember how Jesus rose from the dead after being crucified and to bring the churches in the town together.

“This signifies how Christ has risen, and that he is still alive today. It’s important to remember that.

“I was really pleased with how it went.”
