A cheque has been presented after Wiltshire Police have been getting colourful in their fundraising efforts to support a fellow colleague and a charity campaign.

Police from all over Wiltshire joined the Down's Syndromes International Lots of Socks campaign as part of World Down's Syndromes Day in March, by wearing bright odd socks to work, and raising more than £1100.

The cheque was presented to the Down's Syndromes Society by Chief Constable Mike Veale, and police employee Luke Lewton, who has the condition, and has been volunteering with Wiltshire Police for a year, before landing himself a part time role in December.

Chief Constable Mike Veale said: "It has filled me with the most uplifting and immeasurable pride to watch this wonderful, polite and positive young man take on this new challenge and leap from success to success.

"One thing that has really taken me aback is the sheer love, admiration and support he has won amongst his colleagues, and that is exemplified by this fantastic team effort to raise money for an incredibly worthwhile cause.

Since securing his part time role in the Crime and Communication Centre, Luke has gone from strength to strength and has become a much loved and integral part of the team.

Chief executive of the Down's Syndrome Association, Carol Boys said: "We are so grateful to the whole team at Wiltshire Police for all they did for World Down's Syndrome Day.

"As well as raising an amazing amount of money they certainly also helped raise awareness with everyone."
