St Augustine’s opened its doors today to give their sixth form students their results.

Parents and teachers joined pupils as they opened their envelopes to find out their A-level and BTEC grades.

Collectively, 52 per cent of grades were achieved at grades A*-B and 80% of grades were achieved at grades A*-C.

Joe Alsop, head teacher for St Augustine’s said: “I am delighted that we can celebrate with our students their fantastic examination results which are truly well deserved and enable them to access their first choice university or chosen career path.

“They worked hard to achieve at this standard and should be very proud, not only of their own successes but those of their friends too, in a year that has certainly been more challenging due to the linear nature of the new A Levels.

“These results and the education that they have received at St Augustine’s has created a strong foundation from which they can continue to grow and flourish. I wish them every success in the future.”

St Augustine’s student Edward Farrell has got a place at Cardiff University to study Law after getting A in Georgaphy, B in English Lit and a c in History. He said: “I’m so happy to go to university, that was the big hurdle for me. I was more nervous when I sat the exams as opposed to when I picked up the results today.”

St Augustine’s student Sylvia Raddon scooped three Bs in French, Spanish and Economics to head off to Leicester University to study French and Spanish with Management. She said: “I’m very excited and surprised because I didn’t think I had done as good as I did. During the course I will do a year abroad and there is a summer school for the languages so I can’t wait to get going.”
