FA Cup final mascot Dylan O’Shea has spoken of his excitement at walking out onto the Wembley pitch with his soccer heroes.

Seven-year-old Dylan was picked to walk alongside Manchester Utd’s No. 21 Ander Herrera Aguera as the teams went out in front of 90,000 people.

Dylan usually plays in the No. 9 shirt for Melksham Town FC’s Under 8s team and is a keen Manchester Utd fan.

He said: “It was absolutely amazing. It was the best-ever.

“I was so excited while I was waiting in the tunnel and I got to meet all the players and the manager, Jose Mourinho.”

The only thing that marred the soccer-mad boy’s big day was the result – Manchester Utd lost 1-0 to Chelsea.

Dad Ashley O’Shea said Dylan didn’t let the score spoil his day. “He was still talking about it days later.”

Dylan, of Hawthorn Road, was chosen to be a mascot after Ashley nominated him on the Football Association sponsors’ website.

After parking the car overnight at Wembley, they went by tube train to Kensington and checked into Bailey’s Hotel.

From there on it was a five-star trip all the way as the pair went out for a meal at a local restaurant.

They enjoyed breakfast at the hotel on Saturday morning and watched coverage of the royal wedding.

In the afternoon, they met the other 11 mascots and were whisked by coach to Wembley Stadium.

Dylan went on a backstage tour and met former England and Arsenal player Ray Parlour.

The mascots were told what to expect and took part in a dress rehearsal for the big match event before having lunch in one of the changing rooms.

BT Openreach manager Mr O’Shea said: “Dylan left me around 2pm and I didn’t see him again until he walked out onto the pitch.

“He was over the moon at being chosen to walk alongside Ander Herrera. During the rehearsal, all the players lined up six a side and high-fived all the children.”

Dylan and the other mascots were filmed by a crew working for the Emirates airline, the Football Association sponsors, before and after the kick-off.

“He was escorted back to me and we watched the match together. The only thing wrong was the scoreline,” Mr O’Shea said.

“Dylan was annoyed because he wanted Manchester Utd to win but he didn’t let the result spoil his day.

“We managed to pick up some freebie goody bags and some extra flags from the seats to take home for Dylan’s team-mates at Melksham.”

“He’s still excited about it and was able to keep the kit he was wearing. To walk out in front of 90,000 people was absolutely amazing.

“I’m so proud of him. It was such a great experience and he won’t shut up about it.”
