FANCY dress and a pop up museum were among the anniversary celebrations at Westbury pool when the community gathered to mark 130 years since it was first opened.
A day of fun filled activities took place at the pool in celebration of the anniversary on Thursday (May 24) including swimming sessions for just one penny.
Colin Larrigan, general manager at the pool said: “I would like to thank all of the community and local resources for contributing to this well received event, we had a great turnout throughout the day and everybody had a good time.
“Some further historical learnings were uncovered on the day and hopefully more customers for the pool to continue past its 130th year. Thanks to everyone who took part, contributed or is a customer of the pool.”
Work on building the pool started in 1887 and finsihed on May 24 1888 to coincide with the year of Queen Victoria’s jubilee.
The building work was overseen by William H Laverton, with his wife laying the foundation stone, still there today.
