SHOCKING footage has emerged of a group of thugs forcing a terrified man into a river in Trowbridge.
Police are aware of the footage, that also involves the victim being assaulted whilst pleading for mercy, but are urging people not to share it and contact them instead.
A police spokesman said: "We have been made aware of a video being shared on social media showing an assault on a man in Trowbridge.
"This incident was reported to us at the time and our investigation is currently ongoing. At this stage the victim does not want to engage with police, but we are continuing to reach out to him.
"We are also looking at whether there is enough evidence to pursue a prosecution without the victim's engagement.
"We would like to urge people not to share these types of videos on social media. If someone is aware of a crime being committed then the right thing to do is to report it to police via 101 or 999 in an emergency."
