Hundreds of classic and vintage vehicles attracted thousand of spectators to the White Horse Country Park on Sunday.

The event was organised jointly by Trowbridge and Westbury Lions clubs raising funds for good causes and projects in its area.

Richard Loverock President of Trowbridge Lions said: ”We are lucky to receive huge support from collectors of fine vehicles and today is our chance to show those owners just how much we appreciate their restoration efforts.”

Peter Esdale President of Westbury Lions club added: "As well as the fantastic range of vehicles we have some of the finest musical  talent in the area ready to preform on our main stage."

Among the vehicles of yesteryear was Nigel Wood of Frome with his 1938 MGTA.

The retired motor trader has spent decades of trials driving, winning many awards with his treasured MG.

He said: "It’s been, despite its age, a very reliable competitive trial competition car and I’m very pleased to be able to show it here in Westbury.”

Returning a car to the town where it was  manufactured is Terry Carr of Derry Hill.

He said: "This Marcus V6  was made on the West Wilts Trading Estate so it’s great to bring her back to her birth place."

Terry, with his orange jacket and trainers to match the cars livery explained: "It’s been a labour of love in restoration.

"It’s a barn find, and  it was just a shell discovered in a  farm building . I have spent thousands of pounds  in locating an engine and running gear to bring it back to its showroom condition.”

Coming forward a few decades is Dilton Marsh collector Ashley Colderake.

He is normally interested in World War Two vehicles and memorabilia, but now has added a  sixties car to his collection. Ashley is part of the Company on the Move a enactment group from the 40’s era.

He said: "A few of my mates in the village have bought  minis and this month I bought this  81 model. It’s like the Italian job in our village now with so many of us keen to renovate old minis that featured  in the iconic film.

And bringing another icon to the show was Mike Walters from nearby Rode with his Sinclair C5.

He said: ”This is a car built before its time and sadly the Sinclair company went out of business but wherever I take this little  gem it proves to be a popular talking point.

The White Horse Classic and Vintage Show attracted nearly 500 entries and was held under the Vale of the Westbury White Horse with Vehicles ranging from the sixties and seventies back to the 1930s.

Richard Culverhouse Compere and former President of Trowbridge Lions said;  “This show has brought back many happy memories of cars which were owned and loved in past years, whether of their own vehicle or one that was in the family. A really nostalgic event”.
