LIBERAL Democrat Deputy Leader, Daisy Cooper MP, has told local party supporters that the current political crisis is serious because of the impact on individuals’ lives.
Referring to the Conservative leadership crisis, she told a LibDem Party annual dinner for local members in Bradford on Avon on Friday (October 21): “This stuff would be really funny, if it wasn’t so serious”.
She recounted a story of speaking to a constituent who had just used a foodbank for the first time at the age of 62, saying: “There are people who cannot afford to put food on the table. It’s heart-breaking."
The Olea restaurant in Bradford on Avon was full to capacity, with more than 70 local Lib Dems attending the event.
Miss Cooper told them there is a huge opportunity to win locally at the next General Election, where the Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan holds the parliamentary seat for the Conservatives.
“You have an opportunity here and I want you to grasp it.”
The Lib Dems' Chippenham constituency prospective parliamentary candidate, local town and Wiltshire councillor Sarah Gibson, said: “It was inspiring to hear Daisy speak and hugely encouraging to see so much positive support in the room.”
