A flood warning remains in place for the Melksham and Chippenham area of Wiltshire.

Earlier on Thursday, the Great Western mainline between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads was closed after a huge amount of water gushed onto the track.

Network Rail engineers have been on site assessing the damage with the line expected to be closed all day and possibly into tomorrow morning.

Services on the line to and from Salisbury have been suspended.

Great Western Railway services to Bristol Temple Meads are not stopping at Swindon whilst services to South Wales are being diverted via Gloucester and Chepstow.

Flooding has also caused problems in Swindon’s roads with the car park for the shops in Freshbrook being waterlogged.

Motorists were also spotted battling the elements on Queen’s Drive.

Over in Malmesbury, officials were left disappointed after the pitch and clubhouse were left ruined by water from the River Avon.

The ground is located right next to the river and the club say they expect flooding every year.
