An “awful” fly-tipping incident partially blocked a road in Wiltshire after someone dumped what appeared to be a demolished “shed.”

A large amount of wood and plastic waste was abandoned on Five Lanes near Charlton, just a few miles from Malmesbury, on Saturday, August 12.

Some of the dumped material could be seen blocking parts of the road.

Police responded to the tip, with officers from the Malmesbury Neighbourhood Team attending, and moved the rubbish out of the carriageway.

Officers described the incident as “awful” and have appealed to the public for information via social media.

Taking to Facebook, a spokesperson said: “Local Neighbourhood Officers dealt with an awful incident of fly tipping on Five Lanes near Charlton.

“Anyone had a wooden and plastic shed removed recently or seen a vehicle carrying this later afternoon on Saturday?”

The rubbish has now been reported to Wiltshire Council who will be tasked with its removal.

The council have previously pledged to crack down on fly-tipping and environmental crime.

In June, Councillor Caroline Thomas, the cabinet member for transport, street Scene and flooding, said: “We’re Targeting Fly-tippers here in Wiltshire.

“As we have set out in our business plan, we will take action against fly-tippers and we will issue fixed penalty notices and prosecute.”
