The future of a Boots store in Trowbridge remains unclear, as staff believe the store could be staying open despite nationwide closures.

In June, Boots announced plans to accelerate the consolidation of their pharmacies across the UK, with 300 shops expected to close over a 12-month period.

According to staff at Boots in Trowbridge, the Gateway Park store was one of those earmarked to close.

This comes after the chain closed one of its two Warminster pharmacies at the end of October.

However, it is understood by some that this decision may now have been revoked, as one staff member, who does not wish to be named, told the Times: “We are no longer going to close.”

When approached for comment, Boots refused to confirm or deny if the Trowbridge branch would be remaining open, or if it was even one of the stores they planned to close.

The company emphasised that only branches with other sites nearby would be affected and that all staff from closed stores would be redeployed to other locations.

In June, a spokesperson said: “Evolving the store estate allows Boots to concentrate its team members where they are needed and focus investment more acutely in individual stores.”

In Trowbridge, Boots currently has multiple branches: a beauty and pharmacy store at The Gateway, a pharmacy at Trowbridge Health Centre, and an opticians and hearing care branch on Fore Street.
