WESTBURY Street Fair was held at the weekend in the centre of the town and attracted a host of visitors with its range of events.

The biennial event is organised by Westbury Town Council and Westbury Lions Club for the benefit of local people and charities.

The fair took place on Saturday and was spread across three sites in the town including Market Place, High Street and around the War memorial in Maristow Street.

Westbury mayor Cllr Mike Hawkins was on hand to open the event during a ceremony and there was a range of stalls and entertainment on offer.

Jugglers, folk jazz and country bands, balloon magicians, dog shows and baton twirlers were just some of the attractions available for visitors.

According to the organisers the locals came in their hundreds to support the fair, which was blessed with good weather for much of the day, although there were some light rain showers.

Clive Watts, the immediate past president of the Westbury Lions, said: "It went very well and there was good support generally for the fair.

"Lots of people turned up and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

"The Lions had a stall with candy floss and other things which helped us to make around £1,000 for our organisation. The money will be used to continue the work we do."
