Trowbridge Lions Club has put some of the £5,024 it collected from its Santa Float trips in the run-up to Christmas to good use by donating a new defibrillator to Studley Green Community Centre.
The club’s joint president Richard Culverhouse presented the life-saving device to Bob Brice, the Centre’s vice chair.
The Lions held a “thank you” evening on Friday, January 19 for all the members and volunteers who helped over the Christmas period with the Santa Float community collections.
An amazing £5,024 was raised over 12 nights with 420 miles walked.
The Tesco Express superstore in County Way, Trowbridge, also allowed Santa to collect donations over five days, where they managed to raise a further £2,371.
Over the past couple of years, Trowbridge Lions Club has donated a defibrillator to the Castle Place shopping centre, with the recent addition of a bleed kit.
Members have also supplied a mobile defibrillator to Trowbridge Link Minibus, another charity community group that provides a “good neighbour” scheme staffed by volunteers.
Trowbridge Link’s aim is to help local people who are infirm, elderly, or otherwise disadvantaged in a personal and friendly way. Most of the work by volunteers involves taking people to GP and hospital medical appointments.
