The layout and appearance of 163 new homes due to be built in Devizes have been approved by Wiltshire Council.

Outline planning permission was granted for the land at Marshall Road in March 2023 and the details have now also been given the go-ahead.

The application described the design as having “evolved” and stated that the development would be predominantly comprised of two-storey buildings.

The layout shows a central public open space area as well as a southern wildlife corridor.

The applicant said: “The layout of the site should be designed to create distinctive defined building lines and façades along the proposed primary access road, along Marshall and Nursteed Road as well as facing onto green spaces.

“Along the primary façades indicated the building line should be dominant over car parking which is encouraged to be located within parking courts and other off-road locations.

“Feature buildings should be placed around the site and each of these will be more distinct than the building surrounding them.

“They will help to ensure that there is variation and a distinctiveness within each of the character areas, as well as creating points of interest and way finding tools throughout the site.”

In other planning news, permission has been granted for the erection of a 2.4-metre-high fence around the perimeter of the Wiltshire Council Depot, on Parsonage Way, in Chippenham.
