Chippenham Town forward Sam Allison says the team has not given up on reaching the play-offs, but feels they must prove their worth at Corby Town on Saturday.

The Bluebirds sit two places and four points outside the play-off spots but worryingly have played more games than nearly all of their promotion rivals With just seven matches left to play, the side travel to second-placed Corby Town at the weekend and Allison says they can barely afford any further slip-ups.

“I would say we need to win a minimum of five but more likely six games out of those remaining,” he said.

“Corby will be a big game for us and they are a good side, but on our day we can beat anyone and we have proved that.

“We’ve been inconsistent this season and had some bad luck along the way but we still belive we can make it into the play-off places.

“It was disheartening to lose at Hitchin because if you look at the league on paper it is a game we should more than likely have won.

“But upsets are part of football and why we all love the game.”

Chippenham defeated Corby 3-1 in December but since then the big-spending Northamptonshire club have bolstered their ranks, adding a number of players, including former Nottingham Forest forward Jason Lee, in recent weeks.

“Their stadium isn’t very good and doesn’t have a lot of atmosphere, but it’s not about that now, it’s about doing it on the pitch,” said Allison.

“Everyone has to stand up and be counted because nobody is unbeatable in this league. We will all keep going until the end of the season.

“When you think you’ve got nothing to play for then that’s probably time to give up the game.

“There’s always something, whether it be a new contract or your own professional standards, you always want to win.”
