A third annual ball in memory of a Trowbridge woman who lost her battle with cancer will be held later this month.

Alan Cane, of Sorrel Close, Trowbridge, came up with the idea for the ball to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, after his wife Marian, 54, died from cancer in January 2007.

Her dream before she died was to descend a staircase dressed in a red gown at her own ball.

Mr Cane, 60, said: “The first year we did the ball it was motivated very much by emotion, but now I have progressed, being motivated to raise as much as I can to make people aware of cancer and to help not just the patients, but the families too.”

This year’s ball will be held at the Civic Hall in Trowbridge from 7pm on September 26.

It will feature a champagne reception, three-course meal provided by Fig Jam Events Catering of Warminster, music including local band About a Girl, as well as a silent auction and raffle.

Guest speaker will be Leanne Grose, who attended last year’s ball and will recount her experience of having her leg amputated after doctors found a tumour.

Last year’s ball raised £4,500.
