WELSH defender Ashley Williams has urged the Chippenham fans to be on their best behaviour on Saturday but still expects them to create their usual vocal atmosphere.

The former Newport County player was an injured spectator in February at Hardenhuish Park when rival supporters clashed during and after the game.

Both clubs have worked together to ensure there is no repeat of the unsavoury scenes and Williams has added his voice to those calling for calm.

“Our fans are brilliant and it’s one of the main things that brought me to the club,” he said.

“It’s a nice, stable club with good people around it, with good management and good staff.

“Our dressing room, English or Welsh, is prob ably as strong as any club I’ve been at so in terms of Welsh and English divide I don't think there’s any in our camp. We’re a team and our togetherness will show.”

He added, “I hope the fans give both sides a big reaction on Saturday.

“They’re consistent and that's one thing the club needs. Whether we’re doing good or bad they’re always behind us.”

Williams is one of three Welshmen at Chippenham along with Lewis Powell and Kyle Bassett.

Saturday will also see the return of two former Welsh Bluebirds with Cortez Belle and Tareq Khalil, both close friends of Williams, likely to be named in the Merthyr Tydfil first team.

“When you walk over that line, especially on opposite teams, there’s no friends involved,” he said. “We’ll have a drink after the game in the bar but on the pitch its just business as usual.
