A siege centred on a house on the Studley Green estate in Trowbridge this afternoon after a man barricaded himself in armed with a knife and metal pole.
The drama started at around 11.56am at a terraced house in Westfield Road and ended at about 1.30pm when the man was carried out by his arms and legs and put into an ambulance.
The man, believed to have mental health problems, had locked himself in the house and refused to come out.
Police officers tried to encourage the man out of the house and at one point he threw a knife and a metal pole out during the negotiations.
Armed officers, a police negotiator, police officers from Trowbridge and paramedics with the Great Western Ambulance Service were all involved in the operation.
The man was taken to the Royal United Hospital for treatment.
