A security guard was robbed at a Trowbridge petrol station on Monday night as he was delivering money to a cashpoint.

The 49-year-old guard was at the BP service station in West Ashton Road at 8pm, when he was set upon by two men.

He was left with bruising after being assaulted and a cash cassette containing a large amount of money was stolen.

The first robber is described as a white man, about 5ft 8ins to 6ft tall, with a stocky build and wearing a grey hooded top and casual clothes. The second man is described as being shorter than the first man.

After the robbery, the two men headed towards Lodge Park, a mobile home park, got into a car and drove off.

CCTV footage is being examined and police have spoken to customers who were at the garage at the time, but they are appealing for anyone else who was there to come forward.

Detective Constable Jenny Morison said she also wants help from the public to find out if anyone knows of two men who have come into possession of a large amount of cash since Monday.

She said: “Fortunately, the security guard was not seriously injured, but the possibility of causing him more serious harm was there.

"Someone, somewhere, will have the information which will help me arrest and prosecute these men, and I would ask for that person to contact me as soon as possible.”
