WEST Wilts were disappointed not to achieve a better result against their bottom-placed opponents as outstanding golakeeping and a lack of frontline bite left them with just a point.

Despite some flashes of individual brilliance in midfield, particularly from Hannah Manship and Hetty Thomson, West Wilts struggled to convert possession into goals.

Midway through the first half, Zoe Symes fed a neat pass to Emma Papworth, who evaded one tackle, beat another player then followed up her own initial shot that had been saved.

The team settled into some neat hockey, but again struggled to find the penetration they needed, with the forwards too often dropping into midfield.

Tina Towler and Lucy Diggins gave sterling support, and when Jazmin Grey joined the game she took up some intelligent wide positions to set up crossing opportunities, but there was no-one at the end of them.

In the second half, Wilts were caught at the back by a quick breakaway goal from Fry’s that just slipped past Lucy Nash’s toe.

Disappointed, the team rallied, and began to look more threatening.

Three times the Fry’s ‘keeper saved by athletic dives across the goal, and twice the post got in the way.

Grey, Thomson, Manship and Papworth all went close, while at the other end, Tanya Jackson frustrated all the Fry’s attacks. Eventually, after a goalmouth scramble, Thomson’s stab goalwards was stopped by the keeper but Manship had the presence of mind to lift the rebound over and into the net.

From the pushback, a determined Fry’s side found some width and a precisely placed cross was met well by the incoming attacker to level the scores again.

The last 10 minutes saw frantic attempts by West Wilts to get ahead again, with Pat Murdoch venturing further upfield, but they were contnually frustrated.
