THIRD Division Crown FC always knew that if they were to realise their goal of reaching the final of this season’s reebrooks print media-sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Cup they would have to beat a Premier Division side to book their place in April’s final.

After their stunning 7-4 win at First Division AFC Calne last weekend they would have hoped that the draw would have been kind to them.

Sadly, they were give the draw that none of the other semi finallists wanted when they were paired with cup favourites Biddestone Social.

The semi-final draw which was made at Wednesday night’s meeting of the league’s management committee saw Cooper Avon, who beat last season cup winners Corsham Centre 4-2, drawn against Westbury Rangers A.

Rangers, after finishing as runners up in 2005 and 2008, are still try to end their long wait for cup success which is now in its 38th year.

The all-Premier Division affair is certain to be a red-blooded battle as both teams will be going all out to set up a showdown with either the Crown or the Biddy boys. Tom Perkins, manager of underdogs The Crown FC, won’t be intimidated by the draw as he has great belief in his teams after victories over Witham Friary, Atworth United and AFC Calne.

From the start of the competition he has been building up his team chances of cup glory. Now they will be given the opportunity to prove to everyone just how good they are.

Biddestone, who have struggled against the lesser sides in the competition in the recent past, will be odds-on favourites to book their place in the finals.

And like they did in the last round, when they hammered Audley FC 14-1, they should avoid another potential banana skin a reach their first final since 2006 when they finished as runners up to Parsons Nose.

Draw: Cooper Avon v Westbury Rangers A, The Crown v Biddestone Social.
