An appeal to raise money for a children’s charity on behalf of a Melksham pub has been hailed as a great success.

The Tavern in the Market Place asked their customers to donate any unwanted books and CDs, which were then given to Barnardo’s to sell in their local shops.

Over the last few months the appeal saw a huge collection of items amassed from customers, staff and local people.

Foundation Inns area manager John Stewart said: “We’ve been delighted by the response from the public.

“Before Christmas we had already received about 2,000 books, videos and CDs, so we decided to extend the appeal for a few more weeks into 2010.

“We’re now in the process of counting all of the remaining items so we can announce how many items were donated overall.”

All the donations are being transported to local Barnardo’s shops to be sold to fund the charity’s work with disadvantaged and vulnerable children.
