The former West Wiltshire District Council offices in Trowbridge are to be sold, with all services moved to County Hall, it has been confirmed.

The move to sell the Bradley Road offices forms part of a four-year programme and is expected to happen by 2013.

Chief executive Dr Keith Robinson said: “Bradley Road is not terribly well placed and needs quite a lot of money spent on it.”

In a bid to improve customer service the council wants to offer more face-to-face services to the community in council-owned buildings, for example holding weekly surgeries in places such as libraries.

It is extending the hours its telephones are answered from 8.30am to 5.30pm every weekday and may extend them further.

A report going before the cabinet on Tuesday looks at the ways the council can ensure it meets the needs of individual communities, not just a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

Leader Cllr Jane Scott said the council needed to act like a business and put its customers first. However she acknowledged that things like the council’s website needed to improve.
