What do you like most about living in Wiltshire?

Historic towns and buildings and lovely countryside.

Where would you recommend for a great evening out and why?

Bradford on Avon Music Centre because their programme is so varied and imaginative.

Who would be your ideal dining partner and why?

My ideal dining companion from history would be Dr Johnson, the 18th century author, wit and conversationalist. I would keep very quiet and just enjoy his brilliance. My contemporary choice would be Alan Bennett, for his wonderful understanding of human nature.

Which local landmark or attraction would you recommend?

Westwood Manor, near Bradford on Avon. A wonderful example of a small and ancient manor house, with all the contents bearing the stamp of a discerning previous owner.

What is your favourite book and why?

Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge, for its wonderful portrayal of Michael Henchard, the central character, who encapsulates so many human contradictions within himself.

Favourite music and why?

The music of JS Bach, a lifelong passion, because it has everything.

If you were to start a new business in the county what would it be and why?

Pass on this one no idea!

If there is one thing missing from the county what is it?

I'd like to see some mountains.

Which annual event is a must and why?

Easter, as it has all the hope of spring and is the beginning of the gardening season.
