SWIMMING: TROWBRIDGE swimmers excelled in the British Long Distance Association one-hour postal swim and collected a haul of medals.

The event, in which competitors had to swim as far as they could in one hour, attracted swimmers from all over the United Kingdom and a team from France, but the Trowbridge youngsters proved they were up among the best.

Kieran Hill (11) secured individual gold in the 10-11 years boys' event by swimming 4,190m, and along with Jack Griggs (11) and Sam Smith (11) also took gold in the team event.

Sophie Purnell (11) swam 4,150m, taking the individual silver medal in the 10-11 years girls' group, teaming up with Georgina Barnes (11) and Molly Borthwick (10) to take gold in the team event.

In the boys' 12-13 years, Jack Borthwick (12) swam 4,465m to secure the individual silver medal, and together with Carl Greenan (12) and Chris Weston (12) took the silver medal in the team event.

In the girls' 14-15 years, Rebecca Smith (14), Anita Walton (14) and Rachel Hampshire (14) teamed up to win bronze, swimming a combined distance of 11,710m, with the 14-15 year boys narrowly missing a medal in fourth place.
