A new £5 million Primary Care Centre to replace Westbury Hospital and the central doctors surgery will be located on the Leigh Park estate and not the old hospital site as many had hoped.
The plans were revealed by Westbury Group Practice, NHS Wiltshire and the Westbury Steering Group at a meeting at The Laverton in Bratton Road, Westbury, last night.
Westbury Group Practice had hoped to build the centre on the site of a former garage and petrol station next to Eastleigh Surgery in Station Road, Westbury, but these plans were scuppered when the site was sold to another buyer in June 2008.
The new development will include an outpatient X-ray facility and a dental surgery.
However the plans did come under some criticism for its out-of-town location, near the shopping centre on Leigh Park.
