A young maths whizz from Trowbridge has won a gold award for his numeracy skills.

Daniel Fielding, 10, a Year 6 pupil from Grove Primary School, has taken part in a non-stop 20-week maths marathon to achieve a gold award in Mathletics - an online numeracy scheme.

Daniel started the Mathletics scheme while taking part in Playing for Success (PfS), a national initiative launched by the Government and premier league clubs across the UK, including top football and rugby sides.

The centre which serves Wiltshire is based at the main clubhouse at Bath Rugby Club’s ground.

For his Mathletics achievement, Daniel was presented with a signed t-shirt by Bath Rugby Club chief executive, Nick Blofeld, on May 27.

Daniel’s mother Julie Fielding said: “Dan's confidence has grown since attending the Playing for Success last year at Bath Rugby.

“He has been happy to carry on with the Mathletics in his own time and has now reached the gold award.

“I am so pleased for him as this has been a real boost.”
