A village pub is hosting a music festival in aid of Help for Heroes.

The White Hart, in Bath Road, Atworth, will hold a day of music on July 31, and is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for wounded servicemen and women.

The festival will run from 1.30pm, and will feature numerous live bands throughout the day and acoustic music in the evening.

It is the second music festival the pub has held, and the owners are hoping to repeat the success of last year.

A mixture of rock and pop bands will play throughout the day and so far half a dozen bands have been lined up for visitors.

Landlady Kirsty Sythes, 26, said: “We’re going to ask for a £1 donation to come in and we’re going to have a barbecue and kids activities.

“We’ll have bands playing all afternoon outside and a small acoustic set inside in the evening to carry it on.

“We did it last year and thought it was really good for the village.

“We wanted to do something to help a charity. A lot of the locals have been in the forces and my brother is in the Army. Help for Heroes just came to mind.”

In addition to the live music, there will also be stalls selling bric-a-brac and a various other items, which are a new addition for this year’s festival, as well as activities for children including face painting.

Miss Sythes said: “We’ve learnt quite a lot from last year, and it was really good.

“We’ve added the stalls for this year which people can set up for £5, and an outside bar.

“We’re looking for any stalls really, selling bric-a-brac, flowers, arts and crafts etc.

“We’ve set a fundraising target of £500 minimum, but we’re hoping it will be a lot more than that.”

The White Hart is still looking for bands to play and has space for stalls.
