Visitors to this year’s Veterans’ Weekend in Trowbridge, a Help for Heroes fundraiser, will be entertained by a wide array of shows and hands-on activities.

Many re-enactment groups will be visiting this year’s event in Trowbridge Park on June 26 and 27, including the 25th Bomb Disposal Company.

Veterans Day committee secretary Maryrose Mantle said: “People will get the opportunity to learn how to diffuse a bomb at the event, through the re-enactment group which is coming.

“We have never had a bomb disposal squad at the event before so it should be very interesting.”

Members of the British Red Cross will be recreating a Second World War hospital in the park, while a group of American GIs will be attending to talk to members of the public.

Mrs Mantle said: “The GIs were at the Veterans’ Weekend last year and are coming back again.

“Winston Churchill was quite interested in the GIs and so he will be with us at the event. This is based on a group of re-enactors from Swindon.”

One of the bigger attractions for both children and adults will be the 1st Bengal Cavalry, who will be attending with eight horses and riders to put on a display.

Their appearance at the event has attracted the attention of Brigadier Anil Mehta, military adviser to the Indian High Commission in London, who is due to attend.
