A family fun day held by Bradford on Avon Lions Club has raised at least £1,500 for the Wiltshire Times’ Help for Heroes fund.
The club took more than £3,400 at the event, held on the late May Bank Holiday Monday, which will be divided evenly between the war veterans’ charity and the Lions’ own charitable trust, to fund other causes through the year.
More than 6,000 people turned up for 14th annual fun day at Victory Fields, with a car boot sale, bouncy castle and quad biking, a miniature railway and live music from the likes of local calypso and reggae star Antigua Joe.
Lions president Keith Yates, 69, said: “It was brilliant, we had a really good day. People were flocking in through the gates and the field looked as though it was full.
“Help for Heroes is a very emotive charity and people are happy to back it. When we get a lovely day like that it makes all the hard work worth it.”
Bradford Lions’ 23 members are preparing to celebrate the branch’s 40th anniversary in October.
