Fellow student Lauren Stansfield turns 18 today and had the best present she could have wished for with an A* in psychology, an A in Law and English Language/literature .

Head of The John of Gaunt School, Andy Packer, said: "I am delighted to see that the hard work of our students, staff and parents has paid off.

Colin Kay, Head of The Clarendon College said: “I am delighted with the results. This is the first year for the examination of new syllabuses at A level so I am very pleased that despite this we have maintained our standards. It is always difficult when new syllabuses are introduced especially when as a centre we offer such a wide range of courses and enter so many students with quite a range of abilities. Our students should be really proud of their achievement. “At St Laurence School, Bradford on Avon, headteacher James Colquhoun, said students had done well thanks to high quality teaching and their own persistent effort.

He added: “We are therefore extremely proud of this excellent set of results and impressed by the sheer commitment of our young people. Congratulations to the A-level year group of 2010.”

Out of 320 A-level entries from 107 students, more than a quarter of all exams resulted in an A or A* grade and 15 students secured three or more A or A* grades.

Chris Dark, headteacher at Matravers School, Westbury, said: “Performance at Matravers was almost exactly the same as last year.

“Six students have got the new A* results, which was more than we were predicting. That’s testament to all the hard work of the students and staff at the school.

“Looking at the results most students achieved the grades they were predicted so that bodes well.”

The overall A-level pass at the Westbury school was 97 per cent with 41 per cent achieving A to B results and 16 per cent scoring A* to A. The pass rate at AS-level was 80 per cent.

Warminster School pupils are celebrating a 100 per cent pass rate.

Headteacher Martin Priestley, said: “I am particularly proud of the achievements of both pupils and staff in these difficult circumstances, and delighted that so many Warminster students can look forward to taking up their places at their chosen university.”

Joe Alsop, acting headteacher at St Augustine’s Catholic College, in Wingfield Road, Trowbridge, said: “I am delighted to report that the A-level examination results remain excellent with 12 percent of grades at the new A* standard, 66 percent of grades at A* to B grades and 88 percent at A* to C grades. This year 18 students, our highest number to date, achieved straight grade A*/A in all their subjects.

“The students and staff should be justly proud of these wonderful set of results and I can only express my gratitude for the endless hard work and dedication that the students and staff have put into the courses over the past two years and the support that the students have received from home during this time.

At Kingdown School, in Warminster, headteacher Sheilagh Brown said: “We are delighted with our A-level results and so very proud of our students, who together with their teachers have worked extremely hard to produce these very good results.

“Boys did particularly well at the new A* with 11 percent of entries at A* well above national results. Also 80 percent of students have got into their first choice university, 10 percent into their second which is fantastic, and four students will have to go through clearing.”

At Melksham Oak Community School there was an overall pass rate of 95 per cent, with all students achieving one or more A-levels.

Headmaster Stephen Clark said: “This reflects the hard work and commitment of our students, staff and parents. We are delighted that our students are now equipped to move forward into universities and careers of their choice.”

Chairman of governors Christine Deadman said: “Well done to all of our students. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for continuing to work so hard with and on behalf of the students during what has been an exciting transition year into Melksham Oaks.”
