A pub in Melksham is hosting two days of fun activities for the whole family to raise money for Help for Heroes next weekend.

The West End Inn in Semington Road, is holding the fundraising events across Saturday and Sunday, which will include an all day barbecue, stalls, a visit from a petting zoo and fire trucks from RAF Lyneham.

There will also be a visit from a police van, and a raffle with the proceeds going to the charity for wounded servicemen and women.

All the staff are dressing up with a military theme, and there will be prizes for children that attend in military costume.

On the Sunday evening the pub will hold a Nintendo Wii games competition, which will be open to all, with a first prize of a weekend away in Bournemouth.

Competitors will battle it out over Mario Kart and sports games for a £2 entrance fee. Assistant manager Jo Fox, 25, said: “Obviously Help for Heroes is a cause in everyone’s hearts with us being so close to Lyneham.

“A lot of people have family or friends in the army or who are going to join the army, so it’s quite a personal thing for a lot of people around here.

“We wanted to do something for the bank holiday weekend anyway, so thought we could merge it and raise money for a good cause as well.”

The pub hasn’t set a specific fundraising target, but is hoping to raise as much as possible for the cause, which plans to build a personnel recovery centre in Tidworth.

Manager Tim Jones said: “People can come along an fill up on charitable good times.

“All our staff will be getting involved and it’s going to be a great weekend.

“There’s going to be lots of things for families and people of all ages. It’s for a good cause and we want to raise as much money as possible.”
