A FORMER NatWest banker from a village near Bradford on Avon has been flown out to the USA to face fraud charges in connection with the collapse of energy giant Enron.
Giles Darby, 44, of Lower South Wraxall, spent Wednesday night at home with his family before travelling to Croyden police station yesterday morning, en-route to Gatwick Airport.
Mr Darby is one of three former NatWest bankers accused of a £11m fraud.
A bid to stop the extradition process was taken to the House of Lords and the European courts. The three men are hoping they will be granted bail when they reach the USA, or they face a year in jail while waiting for the trial. Mr Darby said he felt let down by the government for allowing the extradition process to go ahead.
- Banker Neil Coulbeck, a witness in the case, was found dead in parkland in east London on Tuesday.
