IT was an afternoon of music and family fun at the Woolley Street Festival in Bradford on Avon on Saturday.

Bands entertained the hundreds of visitors while a wandering magician, a balloon modeller and face painters delighted the children.

Organising committee chairman Kurt Paulus said: "It went very well. The numbers were a little down on last year because it was a bit windy and cool but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves."

All the activities took place in and around the George Pub, with a stage at the front for bands and an outback area for acoustic music. Popular acts were young bands Carnaby Street, The Volt and The Notts while Irish group Beyond the Pale successfully rounded off the night.

Between acts, the Banjo Billies were on hand to entertain the crowd. Mr Paulus said: "The younger bands went down well. It is an event for all ages. It's a real family day. "As well as the music there are the usual children's activities like face painting, mask making and cake decorating. We also had about 20 stalls with people in the community like The Lions and The Bradfordians."

Mr Paulus said the total amount raised had not yet been counted but the money will be split between Mencap, Wiltshire Music Centre's programme for disabled youngsters, the Bradford on Avon Arts Festival and the effort to relaunch the Village Pump.
