Generous shoppers helped raise £2,700 for Guide Dogs for the Blind when an empty shop in Martingate Shopping centre, Corsham, was run as a charity stall for a week.

Shopping centre owner Bill Hall donated the space to Chippenham and Corsham guide dogs support group.

Organiser Janet Smith said: “It was hard work collecting, storing and presenting the items.

“It was also a tremendous effort from the volunteers, who took time away from their busy schedules to work in the shop.

“We are grateful to the generosity of the people who made donations and who came to browse the goods on display.

“Some even visited us on more than one occasion.”

Fellow co-ordinator George McCaffery enlisted the help of puppies, working and retired guide dogs to show off to passers-by.

He said: “It created a lot of interest and there was a good atmosphere because people were able to interact with the owners and their dogs to learn more about what a terrific job the guide dogs are able to do.”
