PARENTS and pupils crammed in to Redland Primary School in Chippenham for three productions of Alice in Wonderland this week.

Pupils, aged nine-11, took part in the performances on Monday and Tuesday and attracted audiences of more than 100 people each night.

Headteacher Hilary Walton said: "We put a great deal of emphasis on productions because it makes the children very confident."

The 90 children taking part in the two-hour production had been rehearsing hard since May, learning their lines with the help of their parents, teachers and classmates.

Alice in Wonderland was preceded by performances of poems including The Quangle Wangle's Hat, The Owl and the Pussycat and Peter Pan.

Mrs Walton said: "We wanted every child to have a major part at some point in the production that is valued and interesting."

The school choir performed 19 songs throughout the play, having been coached by musician Peter Williams, and there were a series of narrators who helped keep the story flowing.

Mrs Walton added: "It was a two hour production the children have stamina which is amazing and we are incredibly proud of them."
