WITH just one week to go everything is set to make this year's North Wiltshire Festival the biggest and best yet.

Events kick off in Monkton Park, Chippenham on Friday and there are fairground rides, crazy golf, balloon modellers and face painting, as well as a packed programme on the main stage.

Dance groups, schools and bands will be entertaining throughout the two days leading up to Saturday night's star attraction, 80s pop sensations Go West.

Showband Mixed Feelings will be entertaining the crowds in the finale concert while the festival will draw to a close with a firework display.

Event organiser Barbara Gray said: "It's a very family orientated event with plenty of entertainment. There are lots of things for the kids while there are plenty of stalls for the mums and dads to visit.

"It's a fantastic event for the whole of north Wiltshire because it promotes the towns and encourages as many people to get involved as possible.

"We've had a lot of interest from outside the area because of the main band Go West. We've had inquiries from fans asking what time they're on and where they can stay so that's really good for tourism in the town."

Businesses have been quick to sign up for stands while each of the six towns will be exhibiting at the show.

There will also be demonstrations from Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Final preparations for the festival start on Monday when the marquees and stage go up ready for the sponsors to move in on Thursday.

The festival is a biennial event and in 2004 more than 100,000 people attended the daytime events with 25,000 partying the night away.

Entry is free for the festival, which will be opened at 2pm on Friday.
