A JILTED man hanged himself in his home after his partner ended their relationship, an inquest heard.

Graham Wall, 47, of Kingsley Road, Chippenham, was found dead by police on February 24.

An inquest was held in Devizes on Friday.

Mr Wall moved to Wiltshire from Lancashire after meeting Joanne O'Callaghan but the relationship had run into difficulties in the months before his death.

Two nights before he died Mrs O'Callaghan said Mr Wall told her: "If I'm going anywhere, you're coming too."

Fearing for her own and her children's safety, she slept in another room and the next night moved to a safe house.

The next day she told Mr Wall over the telephone the relationship was over and later visited the house with a social worker.

They found the sofa had been slashed with a knife and a letter Mrs O'Callaghan had instructed her solicitor to send him asking him to leave the property was also found in the house.

The social worker contacted the police who arrived to find Mr Wall hanging from the loft hatch.

The court heard from Douglas Wall how his brother had been an intensely private man who was not prone to violence.

Wiltshire Coroner David Masters said: "He learned there was not to be any reconciliation and that the relationship was over and I am satisfied he took the course of action to bring about the end of this life."

Verdict: Suicide
