A coffee morning held in aid of Help For Heroes was a huge success, raising more than £600 for the national charity which helps servicemen and women.

The fundraising effort was a personal challenge for Sue Roberts, 54, of Hilperton, who hosted the coffee morning last Thursday.

She has served 22 years in the Royal Navy and her husband Steve, 50, has served 24 years.

Mrs Roberts invited injured soldier Josh Campbell to draw the raffle. He came with his mother Helen Martin, who lives in Melksham.

The occasion happened to coincide with the first anniversary of Pte Campbell’s injury, received in a Taliban bomb attack.

Mrs Roberts, who used the home of her brother and his wife to host the event, said: “I am just so overwhelmed with how well the coffee morning went and how much we have raised.

“We are still collecting money in now.

“The support has been exceptional and we have worked together as a family so well.”

She said that many people who had not attended any of her previous fundraisers had come because Help For Heroes is such a good charity.

She thanked Pte Campbell for supporting the event and also her brother and sister-in-law Ian and Joanne Cradock for the use of their house.

Mrs Roberts hopes to make the coffee morning an annual event.
